Zizerk es un dj y productor gallego que reside actualmente en New York, EEUU. Estudió formación de piano clásico en el conservatorio de Santiago de Compostela y durante varios años fue desarrollando una intensa atracción por la música pasando por estilos como el metal o el hip hop, para terminar encontrando su pasión en la música electrónica underground. Entre las producciones y sesiones habituales de Zizerk abundan estilos como el electro y breaks, caracterizados por melodías oscuras e inmersiones ocasionales en UK bass y jungle, siempre evitando la monotonía y aportando sonidos provocadores y auténticos. Como dj, Zizerk ha tenido presencia y residencias en varios clubs gallegos, como Moroco, Telefunken, El Pantalán, Soda, Sarela, Krooner, LaRadio Club, etc. así como festivales locales y eventos, y ha compartido cartel con artistas internacionales consagrados como Alexander Kowalski, Cora Novoa, Luke Mckeehan, Nicodemus, Re: Axis, Alex Under, etc. Ya en Nueva York, ha pinchado en clubs como TBA Brooklyn, Eris Evolution, Tilt BK, Threshold Studios, y varias galerías de arte. Como productor, ha publicado temas originales y remixes en varios sellos como Micro Vision Recordings o Tri Music Group, ambos establecidos en Brooklyn. Actualmente está colaborando en un recopilatorio que saldrá a finales del 2021, y también trabajando en su primer EP, así como un live set que verán la luz en 2022.
Hemos tenido el placer de hablar con él y este ha sido el resultado.

¿Qué fue lo primero que te atrajo del mundo de la música electrónica?
Siempre fui un amante de la música en general, pero cuando conocí la música electrónica descubrí un nuevo mundo de sonidos y ritmos ilimitados que nunca había experimentado antes. Sobre todo me atrajo la capacidad que tiene de crear paisajes sonoros complejos imposibles de alcanzar con instrumentos clásicos.
¿Recuerdas algún disco o concierto que te haya hecho ver todo de otra forma?
Recuerdo el primer festival de electrónica al que fui en mi ciudad cuando era un chaval, y cómo la potencia del sonido y las visuales me impactaron profundamente, en ese momento me di cuenta de que mis intereses musicales habían dado un giro de 360 grados.
Desde que te metiste en esto profesionalmente, ¿qué echaste en falta a nivel nacional, internacional? ¿Y qué te ayudó más a crecer, incluso a creer en ti mismo?
Quizás lo que más siempre he echado en falta es la variedad en las propuestas de música electrónica que tenemos a nuestro alrededor. El mainstream desborda a lo underground con creces y me gustaría que se apreciase más el trabajo que hay detrás de cada producción. A la hora de crecer y creer en uno mismo, intento ser objetivo y humilde con mi trabajo, creo que tengo muchísimo que aprender todavía. La pasión por la música y el retarme a mi mismo es lo que me empuja a evolucionar cada día.
¿Cómo decidiste embarcarte en tu último trabajo?
Llevaba tiempo enredando con estos 3 temas y conocí a Roi en una entrevista para su radio show, aproveché la ocasión para incluir las promos en el programa, le gustaron y me propuso sacarlos en su sello Fanzine Records. Siempre aprecié la calidad de sus releases y fue un gran honor formar parte de ellos.
¿Cómo estás viviendo la escena musical en tu ciudad con esta turbia situación de pandemia?
A día de hoy la escena underground en NY está prácticamente reinstaurada. Hay muchísimos eventos y nuevas caras, sobre todo artistas muy jóvenes que se han ido ganando un lugar en las cabinas durante este período.
¿Cuáles son tus lugares favoritos para pasar el rato en la ciudad?
Me encanta escalar y suelo pasar muchos ratos en un rocódromo en el barrio de Williamsburg. También disfruto de largos paseos y aquí tenemos unos parques impresionantes idóneos para ello como Central Park o Prospect Park.
¿Has tenido tiempo para concentrarte en hacer música, pasar tiempo con tu familia o planificar proyectos futuros?
Ojalá los días tuviesen más horas! Compaginar el trabajo, la familia, la música, las aficiones y tener tiempo para uno mismo, es prácticamente imposible. Siempre me encuentro sacrificando algo para disfrutar del resto.
¿Tienes algunas palabras finales de sabiduría?
Todo puede cambiar de un día para otro. Deja el ego de lado y disfruta de la gente que tienes a tu alrededor. Y sobre todo prioriza lo que es importante en tu vida y no en la de los demás.

What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music?
I was always a music lover in general, but when I was introduced to electronic music I discovered a new world of unlimited sounds and rhythms that I had never experienced before. Above all, I was attracted by its ability to create complex soundscapes impossible to achieve with classical instruments.
Do you remember any record or concert that made you see everything differently?
I remember the first electronic festival I went to in my hometown when I was a teenager and how the power of the sound and the visuals had a profound impact on me, at that moment I realized that my musical interests had taken a 360-degree turn.
Since you got into this professionally, what did you miss nationally, internationally? And what helped you the most to grow, even to believe in yourself?
Perhaps what I have always missed the most is the variety in the electronic music proposals that we have around us. The mainstream far exceeds the underground and I would like the work behind each production to be appreciated more. When it comes to growing and believing in oneself, I try to be objective and humble with my work, I think I still have a lot to learn. The passion for music and challenging myself is what pushes me to evolve every day.
How did you decide to embark on your latest project?
Melting Storm EP contains 3 tracks that I had been messing around with for some time. I met Roi, one of the cofounders of Fanzine Records, in an interview for their radio show, took advantage of the occasion to present the tracks on the show and he liked them and suggested I release them on the label. I always appreciated the quality of their releases and it was a great honor to become a member of the label.
How are you living the music scene in your city with this murky pandemic situation?
Today the underground scene in NY is practically restored. There are many events and new faces, especially young local artists who have been gaining a place in the booths during this period.
What are your favorite places to hang out in the city?
I love rock climbing and I often hang out at an outdoor climbing gym in my neighborhood, Williamsburg. I also enjoy biking and long walks, here we have some impressive parks suitable for it, such as Central Park in Manhattan or Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
Have you had time to focus on making music, spending time with your family, or planning future projects?
I wish the days had more hours! Combining work, family, music, hobbies and having time for oneself is practically impossible. I always find myself sacrificing something to enjoy the rest.
Do you have any final words of wisdom?
Everything can change from one day to the next. Put your ego aside and enjoy the people around you. And above all, prioritize what is important in your life and focus your energy on it.
