INTERVIEW: Fausto Fanizza & Thomas Schwartz

Working in perfect harmony, Italy-based producers Fausto Fanizza & Thomas Schwartz have been working together for many years after meeting as neighbours. Finding excellent synergy, and experimenting with many different genres over the years, the pair have recently teamed up to release a remix on Purified Records of Serra 9 & Phoebe’s ‘Rain’. Chatting about the new release and music in general, we caught up with them in an exclusive interview below –

Hey guys! What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music?

It made me want to dance! Do you remember any album or concert that has changed everything? (

Tom) Daft Punk's 'Homework'… astonishing. Since you got into this professionally, what helped you the most to grow, even to believe in yourself?

Learning from our mistakes, no doubt. What are your favorite places to hang out in the city?

We enjoy eating with friends, so a nice restaurant where you can enjoy some good food. How do you like to spend your free time?

(Tom) Crossfit, cycling, videogames, Netflix. Fausto, food, nature and music and friends, family life, I love DJing! Tell us about your new release on Purified Records!

We produced the whole single with Serra 9 and Phoebe and also added our mix to the package to give a different flavor to the release. What do you want to convey in this work? What is the concept behind it?….

Well, we simply liked the song and added our creativity to it.

As for your studio, what is your setup currently made of?

Less is better, this is the lesson we learnt throughout the years. A 'good old' Mac Pro, Logic X, Moog synths, just a few very reliable plug in effects and a few top notch virtual instruments. Who has been your biggest inspiration in your career?

We are really talking about a lot of names and genres here. The pioneers of electronic music, New Wave, House & Garage, Trip Hop...you name it! Music has always been part of our life, and this life permeates our music. What was the last record store you visited and what did you get out there?

Sadly, most of the record stores went out of business here in Italy a long time ago. What is one thing you would change about the music industry?

We wish it was all about music and skills and not people blowing smoke with fake followers, ghost productions, pre-recorded DJ sessions and stuff like that. If you could perform anywhere on earth, where would it be and why?

(Tom) I've always been attracted to Japan and its culture, that's one on the top of my list. I'd also love to go back to the US since I'm both Italian and American. It would be like going back home.
