SLAPPED Records Celebrates the Season with the ‘À Fleur de Son’ Various Artists Release

Curated by label head Mitch Oliver, the seven-track sampler features new music from Borak, FREEEMAN, Hi Milio, Manu (CA) & Peter Damian, DUZA, plv, and TheClaw.

In the midst of its most prolific Summer to date, Montréal-based imprint SLAPPED Records returns with À Fleur de Son, a seven-track Various Artist release built around refined, DJ-focused club tracks. Out now, it reflects the label’s continued focus on records that prioritise restraint, detail and long-form dancefloor impact.

Founded by DJ and producer Mitch Oliver, SLAPPED Records was built as a platform for music that prioritises execution and feel over genre constraints. Since launching in 2023, the label has expanded through releases and a developing event series that extends its approach beyond the studio and into the club.

Across À Fleur de Son, the focus remains on subtle, high-function club records. Rather than leaning on peak-time intensity, the release works through rhythm and restraint, with tracks that shape energy through detail and progression rather than force.

Borak’s “Rushing for Love” opens the compilation with playful horn lines and soulful vocals, before FREEEMAN follows with his sun-drenched, groove-led cut “Paris Bébé” . Hi Milio’s “Free Your Mind” introduces hypnotic spoken-word elements, gradually building tension through drawn out breakdowns, while Manu (CA) & Peter Damian’s “Crowd In Sync” tightens the focus into a precise, stripped-back cut.

Moving into the back end of the VA, DUZA’s “Baby” shifts the energy toward a rawer edge, drawing on 70s drums breaks and old school vocals, while plv’s “It’s Not Just Music” pares things back into a functional groove designed for extended transitions and mixing utility. Finally, TheClaw’s “Your Body” closes the record on a more open note, layering dusty, soulful textures just beneath the surface of the rhythm and leaving the release in a suspended, reflective space.

The release arrives as SLAPPED Records continues a packed summer of international events, with dates spanning Ibiza, Los Angeles, Miami, and Amsterdam, before culminating in a hometown showcase in Montréal on July 17. For full list of dates, see below.
