OTEE presents Cloud Collision

With Cloud Collision, OTEE presents the first release on Open Water, a five-track EP that explores the relationship between rhythm, atmosphere and the gradual build-up of tension. The Berlin-based DJ and producer draws on years of experience behind the decks and in the studio, shaping a debut that favours subtle development over immediate dancefloor impact.
The opening title track, “Cloud Collision”, introduces the record’s central ideas. Rather than relying on oversized drops or pronounced changes in structure, OTEE builds the arrangement through repetition, measured progression and the interplay between percussion and space. The result is a restrained but effective piece of club music, driven by a groove that gradually establishes its presence.
“Moto” follows a similar direction, focusing on the connection between movement and texture. Its rhythmic foundation provides a persistent sense of momentum, allowing the different elements to develop without competing for attention. This approach reflects a producer who understands the value of subtle interactions, placing the emphasis on how sounds accumulate over time rather than on isolated moments of impact.
With “Aktion Reaktion”, OTEE introduces a further variation within the EP’s rhythmic framework. The title evokes a relationship between opposing forces, an idea that finds its expression in the tension and response characteristic of club-oriented electronics.
The track maintains the release’s measured approach, allowing the groove to evolve naturally while preserving a clear sense of restraint.
The B-side opens up a slightly different perspective. “Retrograde” suggests a form of movement that resists a straightforward trajectory, introducing a more introspective quality without abandoning the EP’s established language. Its development remains rooted in repetition and gradual change. “Parabola” brings the record to a close with a title that suggests a curved path, echoing the music’s preference for subtle shifts and continuous evolution over abrupt transitions.
Across its five tracks, Cloud Collision reveals a coherent understanding of the relationship between production and dancefloor functionality. The drum-driven, loop-based structures provide a consistent foundation, while atmospheric details add depth and prevent the material from becoming purely utilitarian. This balance allows the EP to function within a club setting while retaining qualities that reward more attentive listening.
As the first release on Open Water, Cloud Collision establishes a preliminary sense of the label’s musical identity. Its sound draws on Berlin’s club culture without relying excessively on familiar references or established stylistic conventions. OTEE instead works with a focused palette of elements, allowing rhythm, space and the gradual accumulation of energy to define the material.
The result is a debut that finds its strength in continuity rather than spectacle. Cloud Collision is aimed at the deeper end of the dancefloor, where the effectiveness of a track depends less on its ability to command immediate attention than on the way it gradually integrates into the atmosphere of the room.
