Dina Summer presents Children Of The Night

Dina Summer continue to carve out their own corner of the dark electronic universe with Children Of The Night, a nine-track mini album that feels equally at home in a sweaty club and under the neon glow of some imaginary 1980s nightclub. The Berlin-based trio once again balance Italo disco, EBM, new wave and electroclash without falling into pure retro worship.

“Burning Heart” and “Bats In Paris” bring the disco pulse and melodic immediacy, while “Fuel”, “Komodo 3000” and the title track push deeper into darker, more club-oriented territory. There’s a pleasing sense of movement across the record, with the indie-leaning “Rat Race” and “On The Road” adding another shade to their palette.

What makes Dina Summer particularly effective is their ability to make nostalgia feel contemporary. The synths may belong to another era, but the production, basslines and hooks are firmly built for today’s dancefloor. Children Of The Night is stylish, theatrical and unapologetically nocturnal — exactly as its title suggests.
