NEWS: Pop Mutations announce the festival’s first in-person event

After two years vonline, Pop Mutations have announced that their first in-person festival will take place this October. A four-day weekend, IRL's grand opening extravaganza will take place across four of Glasgow's most beloved venues and vegan bars and kitchens. The Flying Duck, Stereo, The Old Hairdressers and Mono will play host to an incredible array of local and international talent representing the very best in cutting-edge music.

Pop Mutations begins October 14 on The Flying Duck. Rhode Island's Container will bring their own brand of punk-tinged techno to the underground basement alongside Glasgow DJ and visual artist DIJA; Manchester-based CITS & NTS Club resident Hesska and Glasgow art-punk live duo Comfort. Iceboy Violet from Manchester; rock duo from Leeds Guttersnipe; Scottish rap and post-rock duo HousePlants; and Glasgow-based selector and producer Gynoid 74 are also taking part, as well as audiovisual artist and a quarter of The Ninth Wave: K.Yalo.

The day after the festival he moves the party a ten minute walk up Renfield Lane, to Stereo and its neighbor The Old Hairdressers. Throughout the day, SAY 2021 Award nominee AiiTee; GABO (Glasgow African Balafon Orchestra); singer, rapper, actress and model Clarissa Woods, and more will perform, and the day will be headlined by post-punk quartet Kaputt and Aberdonian grime champion Ransom FA. That night, long-time collaborators Mina and Bryte join the bill. Influenced by a shared love of global club culture, the two are renowned for their unstoppable live energy, bringing a vibrant fusion of afrobeat, rap and experimental club sounds to Stereo Club. Also in attendance are Mojxmma, the Scottish party starters of QTIBPOC, and some of the city's most formidable selectors and performers, including Bake, Maveen, Roo Honeychild and HUSS. Upstairs in the Stereo bar, Glasgow Southside's Radio Buena Vida will take over from 8 p.m. m. to 4 a.m. m. with a host of local DJs.

Manchester post-punk champions Handle will headline Old Hairdressers on Saturday. They will be joined by indie trio Nape Neck and Leeds artist The Ephemeron Loop, who will bring their critically acclaimed blur of psychedelic styles, as well as: Semay Wu, Sound of Yell, Sloth Racket, Tony Bevan + guests and more.

Mono takes the baton for the final day of the festival with a vibrant line-up including previous Scottish Album of the Year winners Sacred Paws, well known and loved for their life-affirming guitar pop. They'll be sharing the stage with a slew of local names, including new wave pop-political group Current Affairs and alchemical supergroup Nightshift. Prolific Glasgow DJ and party starter Junglehussi and Listen Babes podcast will be on the decks throughout the day and the line-up is rounded out by Berlin's angular post-punk trio Liiek and Dublin feminist indie band Extravision.

Although the main festival kicks off on October 14, Pop Mutations will be holding a pre-festival warm-up at Finnieston's The 78 on Thursday October 13 alongside some of Glasgow's top DJs, line-up TBC.
