Marcus Watkins presents For Those Who Crave

There is a particular kind of house music that does not demand attention so much as reward it. Marcus Watkins' For Those Who Crave belongs to that category. Across three tracks, the UK producer keeps things deliberately focused, favouring atmosphere, repetition and gradual movement over obvious peaks or dramatic gestures.
Released on Du.Me Records, the EP is a compact 19-minute excursion through a warm, understated strain of house music. Its relatively restrained tempo — sitting around 116–118 BPM — gives the record an unhurried quality, but there is nothing static about it. Watkins understands that a groove can be hypnotic without becoming inert, and that subtle changes in rhythm and texture can be enough to keep a track moving.
“Voices from Above” sets the tone with a patient, almost weightless quality. It is an opening track that seems more interested in establishing a space than immediately filling it. There is a sense of suspension here, as though the music is deliberately holding itself between the dancefloor and a more introspective listening environment. It is deep house in the broadest sense of the term: not simply because of its tempo or palette, but because of its willingness to let repetition become part of the emotional language.
With “Da Gojo”, Watkins brings a little more physicality into the equation. The groove feels more purposeful, giving the EP a central point of momentum without breaking its overall restraint. Rather than functioning as a conventional “second track”, it feels like a natural continuation of the same conversation — the point where a mood begins to turn into movement.
The most intriguing title belongs to the closing “49 Revolutions Around the Sun”, which also happens to be the EP's longest track. There is something appropriately cyclical about ending the record here. After two tracks concerned primarily with atmosphere and groove, the title introduces a more human sense of time: years passing, repetitions accumulating, the same orbit experienced from a different perspective.
That idea of repetition is perhaps the key to understanding For Those Who Crave. Watkins is not attempting to overload the listener with information. Instead, he works with a limited vocabulary and allows it to breathe. The three tracks share enough rhythmic DNA to feel connected, but each occupies a slightly different emotional position within the same landscape.
It is a sensible approach for a record of this length. Nothing feels unnecessarily stretched, and the EP avoids the common trap of confusing duration with depth. At under twenty minutes, For Those Who Crave makes its point and leaves before the atmosphere has time to become predictable.
What is particularly appealing is its lack of urgency. There is no obsession with the drop, no desperate need for a peak-time payoff. Watkins seems more interested in the space between moments — the gradual accumulation of groove, the way a track can alter a room without necessarily announcing that it is doing so.
That makes the EP particularly suited to the margins of the night: the beginning of a set, the transition into something deeper, or those late hours when the dancefloor has stopped being about spectacle and become something more private. It is music that understands that dancing and listening are not necessarily opposing activities.
For Those Who Crave does not reinvent the house template, and it does not need to. Its strength lies in its economy and consistency. Marcus Watkins takes three tracks, gives them a shared sense of pace and atmosphere, and allows the listener to decide how deeply to enter.
The result is a modest but assured release — one that finds its character not through excess, but through restraint. For those who crave immediacy, there may be little here to satisfy. For those willing to stay with the groove, however, Watkins offers something more lasting: a record that quietly settles in rather than simply passing through.
