REVIEW: POLA WOMEN

Intriguing electronic duo Pola Women land on Rework's Exlove label with a fantastic new six-track EP.

This duo consists of Desiree Lune with Michel Kuebler, a couple that is divided between Berlin and Stuttgart and is inspired by the aesthetics of the disco and 80s cinema. Desiree is a singer and writer who works on several different projects while studies art at the Kunstakademie in Stuttgart. She is used to performing on stage and is linked here with Michel Kuebler, who is part of the electronic bands Rework and she She Lies and is an expert in crafting songs based on innovative synthesizers and drum machine loops. Like Pola Women, the pair create manic beats and explore immersive, vibrant sound worlds that blend synthetic New Wave landscapes with a signature krautrock beat.

Marking a pivotal moment in the project, Pola Women solidifies its place within the dance music arena. The result is an this work: "Disco Disco", as experimental as it is intense and addictive, which takes over oneself like sweet poison, while progressively transporting us, as few producers with a certain fluidity are willing to do. We do not know what the future holds, but we do know that this record is testimony to a turbulent and uncertain present, which will remain in our memory forever. For records like this, we can continue to fight for a better future.

We do not know where to register his latest work, as he is able to navigate between various genres with ease and mastery. We could say that his retro-futuristic electronic court is the most honest and eclectic to date. This latest work, so narrative and cinematographic, invites us to enjoy it both at home and on the dance floor.

In such a complex and chaotic moment, in the middle of a pandemic, "Disco Disco" becomes a place as wonderful as it is necessary.
