Goeran Meyer — “Disconnected” — MYR Records

The strongest vocal tracks in electronic music often understand that the voice doesn't need to dominate the production. It needs to belong to it. On “Disconnected”, Goeran Meyer achieves precisely that, placing Johannes Tibursky's distinctive vocals inside an organic, slowly evolving arrangement that feels equally suited to close listening and the dancefloor.
Released on MYR Records as part of the Disconnected EP, the track sits comfortably within the label's organic-house aesthetic while maintaining a stronger songwriting focus than many of its contemporaries.
Tibursky is an intriguing choice for this kind of production. His background stretches across post-punk, indie, acoustic songwriting, production and sound design, and that history seems to remain audible in the character of his voice. There is something slightly weathered and introspective about the vocal presence, preventing the track from settling into the polished anonymity that can sometimes characterise vocal-oriented electronic music.
Meyer wisely avoids competing with it.
The production is built around organic grooves and warm electronic textures, with the arrangement developing through small shifts in rhythm and melody. Rather than constantly introducing new ideas, the track allows existing elements to gain significance through repetition and subtle evolution.
That approach gives “Disconnected” an unusual sense of patience.
It doesn't behave like a track engineered around one obvious drop. Instead, its movement comes from the gradual interaction between the groove and Tibursky's vocal. The rhythm remains grounded while the vocal gives the track an emotional narrative, creating a tension between physical movement and introspection.
The instrumental version is arguably the most revealing part of the release. Removing the vocal exposes the production beneath it and demonstrates that Meyer has built something more substantial than a backing track. The rhythmic details become easier to appreciate, while the melodic elements acquire more room to breathe.
The two short mixes then reduce the same material into more immediate forms. This makes the EP useful across different listening situations without compromising its central identity.
There is a pleasing lack of urgency throughout the release. Meyer doesn't seem interested in forcing the track into a conventional emotional arc. Instead, Disconnected develops organically, allowing the listener to discover its details at their own pace.
That makes the title particularly appropriate. The track may be concerned with separation, distance or emotional disconnection, but musically it creates a remarkably coherent meeting point between electronic production and traditional songwriting.
The result is organic house with a genuine sense of personality—warm, measured and quietly melancholic, but never detached from the physical demands of the club.
