Berlin live artist/producer/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Felix Raphael releases his forthcoming album’s first single, ‘Creation (no matter how far I go)’, out now via [PIAS] Électronique, heralding the November release of the full-length LP ‘DO YOU’ - themed around mental health, both as a universal issue and also stemming from Felix’s own experiences.  

Across the 16-track LP, Raphael bares his soul, shines a light on a topic that’s far too often kept in the dark, and transmutes his feelings into an exquisitely realised Indietronica epic sure to resonate with listeners all across the world. He explores his own mental health challenges as a successful international musician (and as a professional social worker), aiming to touch bases with people and their stories inside and outside the music industry. As mental health and its topics are not only music-related. They matter to all of us individually (both inside and outside the music industry).

Raphael achieves this through a blend of melodic and organic house with indie folk elements, purpose-designed for live performance as he plays guitar, piano, synths and the Fluegelhorn which he taught himself specifically for the album as part of its signature sound and hopeful feeling. He deploys his rich, warm vocal gifts, his voice a reassuring anchor throughout. 

While the LP will highlight issues such as comparison with others, dealing with both successes and failures, industry genre-conforming pressure and the courage needed to be open about mental health problems, it is also ultimately a positive record - in celebrating the true joy of creativity and sharing it with others. 

 The first LP single release is a foretaste of this message. Says Raphael, ‘’Creation (no matter how far I go)’ is a reminder that no matter how far we travel - physically, emotionally, or creatively - the joy of creating never fades. It’s a tribute to the pure, unshakeable pleasure we find in making art, wherever we are on the journey.’ 

‘Creation (no matter how far I go)’ offers contemplative plangent piano in support of Raphael’s heartfelt vocals, singing of being too far, too long away from home, with an emotion and sound reminiscent of Editors, before a livelier beat blossoms and the lyrics evolve to a tribute to the process of creating music.

The main message of ‘DO YOU’ evolves around comparing ourselves less with others, embracing our weaknesses, showing vulnerability, and actively caring for our mental health— through therapy, open communication, and acceptance, of ourselves and others. Currently, maybe more than ever, there is a great need for such themes in art, and in the case of ‘DO YOU’, they are also deeply pleasurable to hear
